Weekend Meals for Hungry Students

Weekend Meals for Hungry Students

Yavapai Food Council has demonstrated a commitment to improving hunger among children since our inception in 2009.  With one out of three kids food insecure in Yavapai County, many of YFC programs are focused on childhood hunger.  YFC ensures that nutritious, healthy foods are delivered to our children through the Kids Weekend Food Pack program (previously known as Weekend Backpacks for Hungry Kids).  With an average greater than 50% of Yavapai County students depending on National School Lunch Program during the school day for breakfast and lunch, it is especially important that we provide options for these same kids over the weekend when school meals are not available.

In 2009, YFC partnered with local inner-faith organizations and emergency food providers to raise funds, gather volunteers, pack and deliver food to area schools.  Over the years, YFC has expanded the program to reach hungry kids in Sedona, Village of Oak Creek, Cornville, Beaver Creek, and Mayer Arizona.  In August of 2016, the program will expand even further to serve kids in Clarkdale, Cottonwood, Camp Verde Prescott and Black Canyon City.

Kids Weekend Food Pack program is available to qualifying students at partnering schools and child care programs throughout Yavapai County.  For more information on how your student or school can participate in one of YFC Food For Student programs, please contact us.
